Understanding Vitals

Learn what vitals are, how categories and fields work, how completion scoring is calculated, and the lifecycle of a vital from draft to delivery.

Vitals are the building blocks of your legacy plan - structured, organized pieces of information that ensure your loved ones have exactly what they need.

Each vital represents a specific piece of your life - a bank account, a will, a personal wish, a digital login - organized into categories and ready to be delivered to the people you choose.

What Is a Vital?

A vital is a structured record containing the details your loved ones would need about a specific aspect of your life. Rather than leaving behind scattered notes or hoping someone knows where to look, vitals give your family clear, organized information grouped by topic.

For example, a "Bank Accounts" vital might include the bank name, account type, account number, branch location, and any special instructions - along with supporting documents you upload.

Categories

Vitals are organized into categories that cover the major areas of your life:

  • Financial - Bank accounts, investment accounts, insurance policies, debts, and retirement accounts
  • Legal - Wills, trusts, power of attorney, advance directives, and legal contacts
  • Personal - Final wishes, memorial preferences, personal letters, and family history
  • Digital - Email accounts, social media, subscriptions, and digital assets
  • Property - Real estate, vehicles, valuables, and storage locations
  • Medical - Physicians, medications, conditions, and medical history

Each category contains specific vital types with fields tailored to that kind of information.

How Fields Work

Every vital type has its own set of fields - some required, some optional. Required fields capture the essential information your recipients will need. Optional fields let you add extra context and detail when you have it.

You don't need to fill everything in at once. Save what you have now and come back later to add more. Your completion score will update as you go.

Completion Scoring

Your completion score tells you how ready each vital is for delivery. The score is calculated from three components:

ComponentWeightWhat It Measures
Required fields40%Have you filled in the essential information?
Recipients40%Have you assigned at least one recipient?
Optional fields20%Have you added extra detail and context?

A vital doesn't need to be 100% complete to be useful - but the more you fill in, the more helpful it will be for your loved ones.

The Vital Lifecycle

Every vital moves through a clear set of stages:

Draft

When you first create a vital, it starts as a draft. You can take your time filling in fields, uploading files, and assigning recipients. Drafts are never delivered.

Complete

Once a vital has its required fields filled in and at least one recipient assigned, it's considered complete. Complete vitals are ready to be scheduled.

Scheduled

When you activate your check-in schedule, all complete vitals become scheduled. This means they're protected - if your check-ins stop, these vitals will be delivered to their assigned recipients.

Delivered

After a missed check-in triggers delivery, your scheduled vitals are sent to their recipients. Each person receives only the vitals you assigned to them.

Archived

After delivery is complete, vitals move to an archived state. They remain in your account for reference but are no longer active.
