Files bring your vitals to life - scanned documents, photos, policy PDFs, and other materials give your loved ones the complete picture alongside the details you've recorded.
Your files are stored in a secure file library. You can upload files directly to a vital or add them to your library first and link them later. Either way, they're encrypted at rest and delivered securely to your recipients.
Uploading Files
You can upload files in two ways:
- From a vital - While editing a vital, use the file upload area to attach supporting documents directly
- From your file library - Visit the Assets section to upload files to your library, then link them to one or more vitals
Drag and drop or click to browse - the upload process is the same either way.
Supported File Types
The types of files you can upload depend on your plan tier:
| Plan | Supported File Types |
|---|---|
| Lockbox | Images (JPG, PNG), PDFs |
| Safe | Images, PDFs, documents (DOC, DOCX), spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX) |
| Vault | All of the above plus audio, video, and archive files |
All plans support the most common document formats. Higher tiers unlock support for media files and additional formats.
Storage Limits
Each plan includes a generous storage allowance:
- Lockbox - Suitable for essential documents and photos
- Safe - Expanded storage for a comprehensive document collection
- Vault - Maximum storage for those who want to include media files, videos, and large archives
Your dashboard shows your current storage usage so you can manage your space effectively.
Linking Files to Vitals
A single file can be linked to multiple vitals. For example, a scanned insurance policy might be relevant to both a "Life Insurance" vital and an "Estate Planning" vital. Link it to both, and each recipient who needs it will receive a copy.
To link an existing file to a vital, open the vital editor and browse your file library to select the files you want to attach.
Security and Privacy
Your files are protected with the same care as the rest of your account:
- Encrypted at rest - Files are encrypted in secure cloud storage
- Secure delivery - Recipients access files through verified, time-limited links
- Access control - Only assigned recipients can view the files attached to their vitals
- No third-party access - Your files are never shared with advertisers or third parties
