A Letter to My Oldest Friend

For a childhood friend who has known you longest

Hey old friend,

You've known me since before I knew myself. That's a rare thing.

You remember me at ages I've half-forgotten - riding bikes through the neighborhood, pretending to be astronauts or superheroes, getting into the kind of trouble that seemed monumental at the time and hilarious now.

As we grew up and our lives took different paths, something stayed constant: you were always there in the background of my story. Someone who knew where I came from. Someone who remembered the person I was before life made me whoever I became.

I'm grateful for that. More than I probably ever said.

Here's what I want you to remember: those kids we were - they're still in us. That capacity for:

  • Wonder
  • Friendship
  • Adventure

Life might bury it sometimes, but it never really goes away.

Thanks for being my first real friend. That foundation meant more than you know.

Stay young at heart. I'll be saving you a spot on whatever comes next - just like when we used to save seats for each other on the bus.

Your friend since way back.
