Exporting from Apple Passwords

Learn how to export your password data from Apple Passwords to import into One Final Message

If you store important passwords in Apple Passwords, you can export them to include in your One Final Message. This ensures your recipients have access to critical accounts when your message is delivered.

What You'll Need

To export your passwords from Apple Passwords, you'll need:

  • A Mac running macOS Sonoma (14.0) or later, or iOS 18 or later
  • Access to your device password or biometric authentication
  • A secure location to temporarily store the exported file

The exported file will contain your passwords in plain text. Handle it carefully and delete it after importing into One Final Message.

Exporting on macOS

  1. Open the Passwords app (found in Applications or Spotlight)
  2. Authenticate with your password or Touch ID/Face ID
  3. Click on the three-dot menu in the sidebar or toolbar
  4. Select Export Passwords
  5. Authenticate again when prompted
  6. Choose a save location and click Save

The passwords will be exported as a CSV file containing your usernames, passwords, and website URLs.

Exporting on iOS

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Passwords
  3. Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode
  4. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper right
  5. Select Export Passwords
  6. Authenticate again when prompted
  7. Choose how to share or save the file (AirDrop, Files app, etc.)

The iOS export creates a CSV file that you can save to your Files app or share to your Mac for easier importing.

Understanding the Export Format

Apple Passwords exports data as a CSV file with these columns:

  • Title - The name of the password entry
  • URL - The website address
  • Username - Your login username or email
  • Password - The password in plain text
  • Notes - Any notes you've added
  • OTPAuth - Two-factor authentication codes (if applicable)

Security Best Practices

Your exported password file is not encrypted. Anyone who accesses this file can read all your passwords.

To protect your data:

  • Import immediately - Don't leave the file on your device longer than necessary
  • Delete after import - Securely delete the export file once you've imported it into One Final Message
  • Use secure transfer - If moving between devices, use AirDrop or a secure cloud service
  • Check the trash - Remember to empty your trash or recently deleted files

Next Steps

After exporting your passwords:

  1. Navigate to your Message in One Final Message
  2. Click Add Attachment
  3. Upload the CSV file
  4. Delete the original export file from your device

Once imported into One Final Message, your passwords are encrypted and will only be accessible to your designated recipients when your message is delivered.

Troubleshooting

Can't Find the Export Option

Make sure you're running the latest version of macOS or iOS. The export feature was added in macOS Sonoma and iOS 18.

Export File Won't Open

The CSV file can be opened with any text editor, spreadsheet application, or imported directly into One Final Message. You don't need to open it manually.

Some Passwords Are Missing

Apple Passwords only exports passwords stored in iCloud Keychain. Passwords from third-party password managers or those not synced to iCloud won't be included.
